The studio

Kiyan Studio began with the redesign of antique furniture.

The studio started by restoring and repainting single pieces by hand. That work grew into collections designed by its founder, Mariya Martinsen. Hedonist is the first.

Every piece begins as a drawing on paper and is handcrafted for its owner, from the first sketch to the finished object, for private homes, hotels and projects with designers and architects.

The designer

Mariya Martinsen founded Kiyan Studio in Oslo and designs every piece in the collection. Her starting point is the furniture of the past: an Egyptian chair from a royal tomb, a Renaissance hall chair, a French talking chair. Each is redrawn around one figure from the old stories of pleasure.

From drawing to object

A piece starts as a sketch by hand, then a measured drawing. The frame is built in solid wood. The carving is cut, then gilded with gold leaf or painted, and the frame is lacquered. Upholstery, glass and marble come last.

Designed in Oslo, Norway; handcrafted by skilled artisans.
